Home Exercise: 5 That Beginners Can Do

Exercise is something that most, if not all, dread doing. However, staying active really does provide great benefits both for the body and mind. If you want to start exercising in the comfort of your own home, LIFE’s got you covered. Let’s discuss 5 beginner-friendly home exercises.

Chair Squats

Chair squats are a great way to exercise your lower body. It’s a low-impact exercise that can be done in the comfort of your own home.

The exercise is also an excellent choice for beginners because they do not require any equipment or training from a workout buddy to do successfully. They work the same muscles as regular squats. However,  they are easier on the joints because you don’t have to balance yourself with weights and there is less pressure on your knees.

If you want something a bit more intense, you can also modify the chair squat exercise by standing up and then sitting back down, which allows you to target different muscle groups in your thighs and glutes.

Stationary Lunges

Most revere stationary lunges as a great exercise for beginners as they are accessible and are an excellent way to strengthen the muscles around your hips, thighs, and buttocks. Lunges can be done anywhere with enough space, and all you need is a chair or bench for support.

The stationary lunge is an exercise that works on the lower body and core muscles. Additionally, also helps strengthen your leg muscles while working on balance and stability.

Push-Ups

Push-ups are a great exercise for beginners because they don’t require any equipment or special skills. All you need is a floor and your body weight to start doing push-ups. Push-ups remain a classic home exercise that has been popular for decades. Now, go and get into the high school gym class mood and get started on those push-ups. Your body will thank you for it.

Burpees

Another exercise that we dreaded as young adults but can now help up as aging individuals is the burpee. Burpees are a great exercise for beginners because they are easy to do and can be done anywhere, anytime, and they work out the entire body.

It is a full-body exercise that targets your arms, chest, back, legs, and core muscles. The burpee is also an excellent way to get your heart rate up quickly. Burpees are a great way to get in shape in the comfort of your own due to their intensity and how it simultaneously works out all of your major muscle groups minus the expensive exercise tools.

Planking

Forearm planking is a great home exercise for beginners and is probably the easiest among the examples stated here. Also known as the plank position exercise, planking is a static exercise that involves holding your body in a straight line from head to toe, with only your forearms and toes touching the ground. If you want to quickly strengthen your core muscles, improve your posture, and help you lose weight, planking is the way to go.
