Coffee is an amazing way to start the day. Unfortunately, some just don’t have the time to prepare a freshly brewed or pressed cup every morning with work or school starting so early. To get a coffee fix, some resort to buying instant coffee. While, as a coffee enthusiast, you may shudder at the thought of doing that, it’s more common than you think, even if most won’t admit to it.
Don’t worry, we got you covered. If you want to spruce up your instant coffee game and make it better, you can do these simple tips. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
5 Things You Can Do to Elevate Instant Coffee
As a passionate coffee lover, it’s not a surprise if you’re still looking for ways to make instant coffee taste better. Fortunately, there are a few nifty little tricks to take instant coffee to the next level and here they are:
Add a pinch of salt
We actually found out about this tip not too long ago and decided to try it. Believe it or not, a tiny amount of salt can help balance the bitterness in your instant coffee and actually improve certain aspects of it.
Based on our experience, a bit of salt before pouring and mixing hot water into your instant coffee does make it taste better and improve the heftiness of the drink. We recommend trying it for yourself because it’s a bit more complex than you might think.
Hot Milk > Water
Do away with boring hot water and use hot milk instead. If you want a cup of instant coffee that tastes both creamy and luxurious, using milk is the way to go. Cold milk that comes in cartons works too if you want to make a cold brew variety.
Mix it up with sweeteners
While sugar is a classic sweetener, you already know what to expect, and does next to nothing if you want to make drinking instant coffee more exciting.
We recommend sweeteners like honey or maple syrup, and other sweetening agents that you normally wouldn’t think of like evaporated or condensed milk. The latter two options, we really recommend as it makes the instant coffee very rich-tasting.
Use a frother
If you’re really determined and have the money to spare, consider buying a frother. A frother aerates your coffee, making it a light but thick foam that gives your drink that velvet-like taste. While this may still take a little bit of time and practice, you can enjoy coffee as it came from your café.
Play with spices
Spices can bring both flavor and aesthetic. Adding sprinkles of spices like nutmeg or cinnamon can give your instant coffee a little bit more punch. Plus, it can make your inexpensive cup of coffee more “Instagram-able.” We mean, we won’t tell.
