It’s almost the end of 2018, but Godzilla fans have had a monster of a week recently. Fans everywhere have been clamoring of the new movie coming up in the Godzilla monsterverse.
To put it short, it will be an all-out battle of titanic proportions. 2019 will be the year of the kaiju. The year…of Godzilla.
Trailer of Colossal Proportions
On December 10, Warner Bros. released a trailer for the upcoming movie, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Slated for a spring release of May 2019, this will be a movie that everyone will want to see. The trailer and theme alone already scream “summer blockbuster.” Starring actors such as Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, and Kyle Chandler, this movie
We last saw Godzilla fighting radioactive parasites in San Francisco. This next movie seems to be on a global scale.
The trailer depicts a clash of the ages, Godzilla and his ancient contemporaries fighting for supreme dominance. Not only over each other but maybe even the planet. Forget aliens and scientific disasters gone awry, these super ancient beasts have existed long before humans.
But it seems no matter who wins, human civilization might crumble.
Although only four monsters will be featured, they alone can put on a great show. We have Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan. All four monsters have quite a history with each other, and they are true forces of nature. Titans with god-like abilities that were thought to be mere myths. But now, they are very real.
Now, let’s break down each monster, and what they bring to the table.
Monsters
King Ghidorah
Godzilla’s ultimate foe. His arch-nemesis. King Ghidorah made his first appearance in the 1960’s classic, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. Although this monster has seen many incarnations over the years, one thing remains true: it is big, evil, and powerful. No pun intended it is a triple threat. It can bite, fly, and exhale electricity. It has also been one of the very few monsters to give Godzilla a run for its money, unleashing destruction in a maelstrom of thunder and wind. Hopefully, our king can take him.
Mothra
Here’s all you need to know about Mothra: literally, a giant moth. Long considered an ally to Godzilla and the people of Earth, Mothra has one of the more intricate lores. It is definitely a character worth investing in the Godzilla universe. Although Mothra starts out as a larva, he can undergo rapid metamorphosis. And if that happens, watch out.
Rodan
One of the more famous contemporaries to Godzilla. Rodan has a simplistic design, but can definitely make an impact. Based off of an extinct creature, the Pteranodon, Rodan is a flying reptile on steroids. Although he has been featured in his own film, Rodan has more appearances in video games featuring all-out battles of Godzilla and such. Although, Rodan looks like he could do massive amounts of damage. His wings alone look intimidating. He flies around at supersonic speeds, causing flapping winds that could levels cities. Yikes.
Based on the trailer, we see Rodan having an affinity for volcanoes and heat. Rodan must have some lava-related qualities and abilities. It would not be surprising if he happens to spout streams of lava, or cause massive eruptions to defeat his foes.
Godzilla
And of course, last but not least. The titan of the depths. The monster to end all monsters. The king himself: Godzilla. Godzilla is so deeply ingrained in pop culture, he’s almost a larger than life character, literally. From all the cheesy, lovable Japanese movies of old, to the CGI masterpieces of today. Godzilla is a force to be reckoned with. He is a myth to some, and a god-like figure to others. He’s here, and he means BIG business.
Judging from the trailer, it’s totally obvious. Godzilla will dominate, deconstruct and DESTROY everything. He’s the best. Can’t say more about it, end of story. And if we learned anything from the previous film, there’s more to worry than his nuclear fire breath.
Last Word on the New Godzilla Trailer
We might be a ways off from the movie, but we can only imagine the gravity of how intense this fight will be. It will be an all-out brawl of the ages, the clash to end all clashes. As of now, any monster could end up on top. However, we can only assume Godzilla could end up victorious. Let’s pray that he has enough energy for his next movie when he goes toe to toe with King Kong.
