K-pop Release Preview 3/24/19 – 3/30/19

The upcoming week is a busy one for K-pop releases. So much so that some big names were left out of this week’s list. Sadly, if you’re someone who appreciates full-length albums, this week is not yours. This week is strictly mini-albums and singles. Let’s look at the week, starting on Monday.

K-pop’s Top Upcoming Releases For 3/24/19-3/30/19

3/25/19: Stray Kids – Clé 1 : MIROH

Only a day before the group’s first anniversary, Stray Kids return with a new mini-album. Titled Clé 1 : MIROH, the seven-track release will include title track “MIROH.” If the teasers have done anything for the release, it’s that it has kept it under pretty tight wraps. I predict based off of the second teaser that the song is more EDM based, having possibly a dance break in place of a chorus. But that’s just a guess. You also get to see a few seconds of the choreography in the video. Like releases in the past for the group, members Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han, also known as 3Racha, did the songwriting for all songs. The nine-man group was quite active in 2018, putting out three mini-albums. From “District 9” to “My Pace,” the group has definitely tried out many different sounds. This is the group’s fourth mini-album, as the group has yet to put out a full-length release.

3/26/19: JBJ95 – AWAKE

After JBJ’s disbandment in early 2018, a duo of Kenta and Sanggyun came from the group and have continued to release music. The group debuted in October of 2018 with the mini-album titled Home, which included an identically named title track. The chilled out song was matched with high work rate choreography. Similar to their last release, upcoming mini-album AWAKE will have the same name for its title track. The teaser clips make it seem like the music video for “Awake” will have very high production set design. The clips that have been put out are very short, and you don’t get to hear any lyrics, but it sounds intriguing.

3/26/19: Park Jihoon – O’CLOCK

Park Jihoon is set to launch his soloist career after being a part of boy group Wanna One. After winning Produce 101 Season 2, Jihoon worked with Wanna One from 2017 to 2019, winning 49 music shows with the group. The group was temporary, as all members belonged to other labels are were under contracts to Wanna One. Since their contracts expired and they split in early 2019, Park Jihoon is having his first mini-album release. The album called O’CLOCK features title track called “L.O.V.E.” The video looks very high budget, including amazing outdoor shots of giant buildings and nature. While it shows that, it doesn’t do any real favors when it comes to teasing what the song will be like. The release will have six songs including the title track.

3/27/19: PENTAGON – Genie:us

PENTAGON make their return this week with mini-album Genie:us, a play on words that sounds like “genius.” The album has six tracks, with two of them being unit performances from the “Hip Hop Unit” and “Ballad Unit.” The M/V teaser doesn’t come out for two more days, but we are able to listen to an audio snippet of each song on the release. The title track sounds like a departure from the group’s upbeat sound that was in “Naughty boy” and viral hit “Shine.” The tracklist is very eclectic, as you would expect when rap and ballad are under the same roof.

3/27/19: KARD – Bomb Bomb

Co-ed K-pop group KARD last released a song in July, putting out “Ride on the wind,” an uplifting summer tune. Since then, the group has toured throughout the world, visiting numerous Latin American countries. “Bomb Bomb” looks to be an intense song coming from the four-member group. Unlike most big releases this week, “Bomb Bomb” is only a digital single, with no other songs attached to it.
